Quote Q-0412 · Kitchen electrical · excerpt

Quote

Hi [Client], thanks for having us out today. Here’s what we’ll do in your kitchen for a fixed price of $2,185 + tax: 2 new 20 A small-appliance circuits ($770), 6 countertop receptacles ($570), 4 LED recessed lights ($580) on 1 dimmer ($85), and permit handling ($180). Under-cabinet LED lighting: price to follow.

The countertop receptacles will have GFCI protection, as on your walk-through notes [VERIFY CLAUSE · NEC 2023, county amendments not loaded].

Checked before you see it

  • Checked: 5 of 5 priced lines matched to your price list · total checked: $2,185
  • Flagged: Under-cabinet LEDs: no matching item in your price list, left unpriced instead of guessed
  • Verify: GFCI reference left as [VERIFY CLAUSE] · NEC 2023 per Shop Setup, no article number from memory

Sound like your week?

  • You walk the job at 3, tell the customer “I’ll get you a price tonight”, and at 9pm you’re still at the kitchen table typing it up.
  • An invoice is three weeks overdue. You keep putting off the call because you don’t want to sound pushy with a customer you’d work for again.
  • The customer says “while you’re here, can you just…”, and that extra hour never makes it onto the bill.
  • The site wants a SWMS, RAMS or JSA by Monday, and the template you’ve got doesn’t mention this job, this gear or this site.

How we estimated these numbers

Four jobs come back every week: pricing the work, getting paid, writing up the extras and answering customers. By our estimate that’s about 7 hours a week, or 336 hours over a 48-week year. Vendors claim 8–12 hours for all admin; we left out scheduling, certificates and safety paperwork, so this is the low end.

  • Quotes and estimates, typed up after hours, 3 h/week: Our estimate: about 4 quotes a week at 45 minutes each
  • Invoices and chasing late payments, 2 h/week: Our estimate: invoicing the week’s jobs, plus reminders and calls to late payers
  • Change orders for “while you’re here” extras, 1 h/week: Our estimate: about 2 change orders a week at 30 minutes each
  • Customer emails and quote follow-ups, 1 h/week: Our estimate: about 4 emails or follow-ups a week at 15 minutes each

These are our estimates, not measurements. We assumed the playbooks write the first draft and you still spend about half of today’s time checking prices and scope, filling flagged items, reading every [VERIFY CLAUSE] and sending. That’s about 3.5 hours a week back. All four rows are covered by Basic. For comparison, in ServiceTitan’s 2026 survey of 1,032 trade contractors, 66% of those using AI said it saves them at least 3 hours a week.

Week: A standard 40-hour week, for scale (our assumption, not a survey figure). Yearly figures use 48 working weeks, monthly ones 4.

Why not just ChatGPT?

Why not just ask ChatGPT?

You could, and plenty of electricians already do. But on its own it doesn’t know your prices or your code edition, and it sounds just as sure when it’s wrong. Here’s what that looks like on the job.

Generic AI

  • It makes up code numbers with total confidence. In one exam-prep vendor’s test (Dakota Prep, 2026), ChatGPT got over 60% of 100 NEC questions wrong, including article numbers that don’t exist.
  • A New York electrical inspector says the AI code answers he reviews are more often wrong than right, or “dangerously incomplete”. Some installs have had to be redone (AI Home Building, 2026).
  • It doesn’t say which edition it’s quoting. A 2023-style GFCI answer is wrong in a county still on NEC 2017, and UK cert-app makers report it mixing BS 7671 up with the US NEC.
  • It doesn’t know what you charge, so it fills in prices of its own. Too high and you lose the job. Too low and you eat it.

The Sparky Office Pack

Why this works when ChatGPT didn’t

  1. 1

    Your prices, not its guesses

Shop Setup saves your price list, payment terms and tax line once. The quote playbook prices every line from that list. Anything not on it is left blank and flagged, so no number goes out that you didn’t set.

  2. 2

No code number it hasn’t seen

Your country and code edition are set before anything is written. A clause only appears if it’s in text you pasted; everything else is marked [VERIFY CLAUSE]. Customer emails explain the why in plain English, without quoting articles from memory.

  3. 3

You check it, you sign it

Every document ends with a sign-off block: the key statements, where each came from and every [VERIFY] item for you, the licensed electrician, to check. EICR codes, CoC and CES stay your call. It writes up what you decided.

How it works

Set up once. Then just ask.

No coding, no prompts to copy. You install it the way you would add a document to Claude.

  1. 1

    Download the ZIP

You get one file: a single Claude Skill with every playbook in your plan inside. No app to install, no subscription.

  2. 2

    Upload it to Claude

Add it in Claude’s settings, once. From then on you just say what you need: it reads your request and opens the right playbook, so you never pick a file yourself. It works on every plan, including the free one, with code execution switched on.

  3. 3

    Answer the Shop Setup questions

About 5 minutes: your business name, country, the code edition your area has adopted, your price list, payment terms, logo and tone. Every playbook reads it from then on.

  • Trade job and quoting apps$39–99 a monthEvery month, for as long as you use them: $468–1,188 a year. Worth it for a whole job system, steep if you just need the writing done.

Fair questions

What electricians and small electrical contractors ask before buying

I’m not a computer person.

You don’t need to be. Each playbook does one job, and you never have to pick one: talk or type what happened, and it opens the right one and asks you for anything it’s missing. Shop Setup takes about 5 minutes and you only do it once. If it doesn’t work for you, the 30-day guarantee covers it.

AI gets the code wrong. Why would I trust this?

You shouldn’t trust any AI on code, and this pack doesn’t ask you to. It doesn’t answer code questions. It does the paperwork around your decisions, never writes a clause number it hasn’t seen in text you pasted, and marks everything else [VERIFY CLAUSE].

I don’t have Claude. I use ChatGPT.

It won’t run in ChatGPT: it’s built as a Claude Skill, and ChatGPT has no equivalent way to install it once and have it open the right playbook for each job. Claude’s free plan is enough to run it, and an account takes about a minute. Keep ChatGPT for everything else.

I already use ServiceTitan (or another job app).

Keep it. Use this alongside it for the writing: the quote wording, the scope, the customer email, the safety doc. Copy the result into your system or send it as it is.

There are free prompt packs out there.

Most are a handful of generic prompts written for the US. This is one Claude Skill with 20 playbooks set up for your country and your code edition, reading your price list, with the guardrails built in: no invented prices, no invented code numbers, no generic safety docs.

Built for your rules

Set up for where you work

Paperwork, safety documents and code editions change by country. Pick yours in Shop Setup and every playbook follows it.

Your setup

US · NEC

NEC cycle your state or county adopted, plus local amendments. Safety paperwork as a JSA.

  • Asks which NEC cycle your jurisdiction adopted (2017, 2020, 2023 or 2026) before it writes a word
  • Safety documents come out as a job-specific JSA
  • Quotes, change orders and permit paperwork in US terms: receptacles, panels, AHJ inspections
  • Any code reference without your pasted excerpt is marked [VERIFY CLAUSE]

Guardrails

What it won’t do (on purpose)

These guardrails are in both plans. Safety isn’t an extra. You stay the licensed electrician; Claude does the typing.

Sample verification block

From: Quote Q-0412 · Kitchen electrical · excerpt

  • Checked: 5 of 5 priced lines matched to your price list · total checked: $2,185
  • Flagged: Under-cabinet LEDs: no matching item in your price list, left unpriced instead of guessed
  • Verify: GFCI reference left as [VERIFY CLAUSE] · NEC 2023 per Shop Setup, no article number from memory
  • Checked: Deposit, validity and tax line taken from Shop Setup
  • 01

    It won’t answer code questions

Ask “is this compliant?” and it tells you what to check and where, not yes or no. Code calls stay yours.

  • 02

It never makes up a code number

A clause only appears if it’s in text you pasted. Otherwise it writes [VERIFY CLAUSE]. No licensed code text is included in the pack.

  • 03

    Your edition, declared first

Nothing runs until Shop Setup knows your jurisdiction and code edition: NEC cycle plus local amendments, BS 7671 amendment, CSA C22.1 or AS/NZS 3000.

  • 04

    It never invents prices

Quantities and prices come from your price list. Missing items are left blank and flagged, not guessed.

  • 05

    It asks instead of assuming

Missing Ze, circuit length, installation method or protective device? It asks. Any check it runs uses your numbers, with units, and is shown as a check, not a design.

  • 06

    You classify and you sign

EICR codes (C1/C2/C3/FI), CoC and CES stay with the electrician. It words what you decided; it never decides.

  • 07

    No generic safety docs

It refuses to write a SWMS, RAMS or JSA without the real equipment, site and job steps.

  • 08

    Sign-off block on every document

Key statements, where each came from, every [VERIFY] item and a checklist for the licensed electrician who signs. Customer names and addresses go in as placeholders.

FAQ

Everything else

Didn’t find your answer? Email us:hello@summonskills.com

Which countries and codes does it cover?

The US (NEC, the cycle your area adopted plus local amendments), the UK (BS 7671:2018 with A2, A3 or A4), Australia and New Zealand (AS/NZS 3000:2018 plus amendments) and Canada (CSA C22.1 with provincial amendments). You declare yours in Shop Setup.

Is the code text included?

No. No licensed code text is included. If you want a clause quoted, paste the excerpt from your own copy and the playbook will use it. Otherwise it writes [VERIFY CLAUSE].

Does it work on the free Claude plan?

Yes. The Skill can be uploaded on every Claude plan, including free, with code execution switched on.

Can it read drawings or do a takeoff?

No. It doesn’t read plans, count devices or pull live supplier prices. You tell it the quantities, and it prices them from your own price list.

Does it send emails or chase invoices automatically?

No. It writes one document at a time, properly, and you decide what gets sent. Nothing goes out without you.

What happens when my area adopts a new code edition?

Update the edition in Shop Setup and every playbook reads the new one. Because the pack holds no code text, there’s nothing in it that quietly goes out of date.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once, download the ZIP and keep it.

What about my customers’ details?

The playbooks use placeholders for customer names and site addresses, and remind you not to put confidential customer data into a consumer AI plan.

Quotes, invoices and chasers done, without the kitchen-table nights.

By our estimate, about 3.5 hours a week back: 168 hours over a 48-week year. Your prices, your code edition, your sign-off; Claude does the typing. Use it on real jobs for 30 days, and if it isn’t saving you office time, email us for a full refund.
