For solo and small family law firms
The financial disclosure doesn’t add up, and the hearing is next week.
A year of statements checked against every schedule by hand, then the chronology rebuilt and a parenting plan drafted from scratch. It runs into your evenings, it’s hard to bill in full, and one missed account or wrong total is all the other side needs.
The Small Firm AI Kit for Family Law: one Claude Skill with 17 ready-made playbooks.
- Financial disclosure checks

Financial disclosure consistency report (excerpt)
Summary: Party A reports gross monthly income of $7,850 and monthly expenses of $6,920. Assets: marital home (equity per mortgage statement, Exh. 4), two bank accounts and one 401(k). Debts: mortgage, one auto loan and two credit cards.
Discrepancy 1, income: the affidavit lists $7,850 a month gross, but the two pay stubs (Exh. 2, p. 1–2) average $8,410 a month, a difference of $560. Possible overtime or bonus not reflected. [VERIFY with client]
Checked before you see it
- Checked: Every figure tied to an exhibit and page
- Flagged: 3 inconsistencies flagged; materiality and credibility stay with you
- Checked: Totals recomputed with code, inputs shown
If this sounds like your week, keep reading
- A year of bank statements in one window, the affidavit in the other, and a total that won’t reconcile.
- You spot recurring transfers to an account nobody listed, on a statement page you almost skipped, the night before the hearing.
- The chronology has to be rebuilt again for the next hearing, from emails, orders and your client’s notes.
- Your client emails again asking what happens next, and the update gets written at 10 p.m., after everything else.

How we estimated these numbers
Only part of a small-firm lawyer’s week ever gets billed. A big share of the rest goes to paperwork that repeats on every file. This is a conservative picture for a small family practice with a contested financial matter every two weeks and a hearing most weeks. If your caseload is heavier, so are these numbers.
- Checking financial disclosure against the statements, 4 h/week: Our estimate: about 8 hours to check one affidavit, Form E or Form 13.1 against a year of statements, one every two weeks. No published figure found.
- Rebuilding the case chronology, 3 h/week: Our estimate: about 3 hours per hearing, one hearing a week. No published figure found.
- Client updates and time entries, 3 h/week: Our estimate: about 36 minutes a working day on status emails and time-entry narratives. No published figure found.
- Parenting plan first drafts, 2 h/week: Our estimate: about 4 hours per first draft from the intake notes, one every two weeks. No published figure found.
These are our estimates, not measured results. No published study times these family law tasks, so we started from the conservative hours above and assumed every task still needs you: checking each flag against the exhibit, judging materiality and credibility (which, as Penningtons Manches Cooper notes, AI cannot do, even where it speeds up disclosure review), clearing every [VERIFY] and signing off. So we cut each task by half at most. For comparison, in the 8am 2026 Legal Industry Report 38% of lawyers who use AI say it saves them 1–5 hours a week and 24% say 6 or more.
Week: A standard 40-hour week (our basis). Clio’s 2025 Legal Trends for Solo & Small Firms puts utilization at 27% for solos and 32% for small firms: at those rates only about 11–13 of the 40 hours get billed.. Yearly figures use 48 working weeks, monthly ones 4.

Describe the matter. Get the actual draft.
One Skill in Claude: you say what you need in plain words, its router opens the right playbook, and back comes a draft with every figure sourced. These are excerpts of what comes back, built on fictional, anonymized facts.
A year of statements against the schedules, every mismatch tied to its exhibit.
You ask
“Party B’s financial affidavit plus 12 months of Bank 1 and Bank 2 statements. Find every place the numbers don’t match.”
You get
Each mismatch with the affidavit figure, the statement figure and the exhibit.

Why not just ChatGPT?
Why not just paste the statements into ChatGPT?
Around 70% of solo and small-firm lawyers already use AI (8am 2026 Legal Industry Report; Clio 2026), but only 9% have an AI policy they actually enforce (8am). A plain chatbot is fast, but it doesn’t know your forms, your court or where its figures came from. Family law has paid more than its share for that gap: three of the best-known AI citation failures are family cases.
Generic AI
- Zhang v Chen, 2024 BCSC 285 (British Columbia): ChatGPT invented the authorities in a child-travel application, and the lawyer was ordered to pay costs personally.
- Ko v Li, 2025 ONSC 2766 (Ontario): a family lawyer faced a contempt show-cause hearing over fabricated cases, dismissed only after an apology.
- Victoria, Australia, August 2025: the country’s first AI sanction came out of a family law case. A solicitor gave the court an AI-generated case list he hadn’t verified; he lost the right to practise as a principal or handle trust money and must work under supervision for two years (VLSB+C).
- England and Wales: the SRA warned in August 2026 that putting client data into public AI tools is likely to breach confidentiality and can waive privilege permanently. Bank statements pasted into a chatbot are exactly that.
The Small Firm AI Kit for Family Law
Why this works where a plain chatbot didn’t
- 1
Anonymized before anything starts
Confidentiality Pre-Flight runs first on every task: it offers anonymized mode, swaps names for Party A and Bank 1, and reminds you to use a business plan that doesn’t train on your data.
- 2
Every figure sourced, every total computed with code
Financial Disclosure Checker ties each figure to its exhibit and page and recomputes the totals with code, inputs shown. Case Chronology puts a source on every entry, and anything without one is marked [NO SOURCE].
- 3
No invented cases, and your signature last
Citation Guard never generates an authority: it marks every citation [VERIFY] and checks it against your uploads. Every output ends with a verification block, the human checks it needs and a line for your sign-off.
How it works
Set up once. Then just ask.
No coding, no prompts to copy. You install it the way you would add a document to Claude.
- 1
Download the ZIP
Right after checkout you get one ZIP, ready to download on the page: a single Claude Skill for your practice with every playbook in your plan inside. No account, no login, no subscription.
- 2
Upload it to Claude
Add it once in Claude’s settings. After that you just ask for the work: the Skill reads your request and opens the right playbook, so you never pick a file yourself. It runs on every Claude plan, including Free with code execution turned on. For real client files, use a business plan that doesn’t train on your data.
- 3
Answer the 5-minute Firm Profile interview
Country, state or province, court, regulator, house style, signature and how you cite sources (page, exhibit or bundle reference). Saved once and read by every playbook, so no draft starts in the wrong jurisdiction.

What the other options cost
These are the real alternatives a solo or small family law firm has today, at the prices reported for them. None of them is wrong. They are priced for a different firm.
- Legal AI subscription (CoCounsel, Lexis+ AI)CoCounsel ~$220–639 a month; Lexis+ AI ~$128–494 a month on top of Lexis+ (third-party pricing, 2026)Built for legal research and billed every month per user. It doesn’t reconcile a Form E against the statements.
- Specialist family law AI softwarePrices not publishedYou find out the price on a demo call, and some tools cover only US forms.
- Your own hours, or a paralegal’sYour hourly rate, every statement against every scheduleDone again for each hearing, usually after hours.
- A generic chatbotAbout $20 a monthNo forms, no exhibit references, no verification. The SRA warns that client data in public AI tools likely breaches confidentiality and can waive privilege.

Fair questions
What family lawyers ask before buying
Is it ethical to use AI on client matters?
In the US, ABA Formal Opinion 512 doesn’t forbid it. It asks you to understand the tool, verify its output, protect confidentiality (informed consent may be needed), communicate with the client, supervise staff and charge reasonable fees. In England and Wales the SRA’s concerns are false citations and client data in public tools. The kit is built around both: an AI clause for your engagement letter, anonymize-first by default and a human-verification block on every document. It is aligned with the guidance; it doesn’t certify compliance anywhere.
Is my client’s financial data safe?
Every task starts with Confidentiality Pre-Flight, which offers anonymized mode and swaps names for placeholders like Party A and Bank 1. Use Claude’s Free plan only to try the kit with anonymized or fictional data; for real client files, use a business plan that doesn’t train on your data.
Will it invent cases?
Citation Guard never generates an authority. It extracts every citation in a draft, marks it [VERIFY] and tells you whether it appears in the documents you uploaded. We don’t promise zero errors. We promise every citation is flagged for you to check before you file.
Doesn’t Anthropic already do this?
Claude’s official legal plugins, released in May 2026, focus on commercial, corporate, litigation and similar work. None is built specifically for family law, and none drafts an engagement letter AI clause. These playbooks fill that gap and run on Claude’s Free plan, while the plugins need a paid plan. We are independent and not affiliated with Anthropic.
Can it work out child support or the property split?
Only from inputs you give it. Settlement figures are computed with code from your numbers, and no guideline calculation runs unless you supply the table. Judgment calls on materiality, credibility and fairness stay with you.
Built for your rules
Built for the forms and rules where you practise
Pick your jurisdiction in the Firm Profile and the playbooks switch forms, vocabulary and the rules they remind you of.
Your setup
United States
State financial affidavits and parenting plans, with ABA Opinion 512 as the ethics baseline.
- Financial Disclosure Checker reads your state’s financial affidavit and checks it against the statements
- Parenting Plan Draft follows the structure your state and court use, from your intake answers
- No child support figure unless you supply your state’s guideline table
- AI clause in the engagement letter reflects ABA 512 plus Florida, California or Texas guidance
Guardrails
Verification isn’t a disclaimer. It’s the product.
Every output ends with the same verification block: key statements, the source of each, the items marked [VERIFY], the human checks this document requires and a line for your signature. We never promise zero errors. We promise every citation is flagged for you to check.
Sample verification block
From: Financial disclosure consistency report (excerpt)
- Checked: Every figure tied to an exhibit and page
- Flagged: 3 inconsistencies flagged; materiality and credibility stay with you
- Checked: Totals recomputed with code, inputs shown
- Verify: No support calculation run: no guideline table was supplied
- 01
Citation Guard
No authority is ever generated. Every citation is marked [VERIFY] and checked against your uploads: found in your documents, or NOT FOUND, verify before filing.
- 02
A source on every figure
Every number in a disclosure check or chronology carries its exhibit, page or bundle reference. Anything without one is marked [NO SOURCE].
- 03
Numbers computed with code
Totals and settlement figures run as code with the inputs shown. No support or guideline calculation runs unless you supply the table.
- 04
Anonymize first
Before any task, anonymized mode is offered and names become Party A and Bank 1. Consumer plans are for trying the kit, not for client files.
- 05
Jurisdiction before anything else
Which country, state or province, and which court? Asked once in the Firm Profile, so a Form E never comes out formatted like a US affidavit.
- 06
Your client’s material, not AI affidavits
No playbook writes an affidavit or witness statement. They organize what your client and the documents actually say, in line with the Victorian courts’ warning on AI-generated affidavits.
- 07
No unreviewed advice to clients
Client updates carry an “Attorney review required before sending” banner. Nothing goes to a client as legal advice without you.
- 08
Disclosure wording when rules ask for it
Suggested AI-use paragraphs for engagement letters and filings in Ontario, NSW and elsewhere, marked as drafts for you to adapt to your local rule.

What exactly is in the ZIP?
One Claude Skill for your practice. Inside: a router file (SKILL.md) that reads each request and opens the right playbook, one Markdown playbook per job (7 in Basic, 17 in Pro), each with its instructions, templates and verification block, and the Firm Profile interview every playbook reads. Pro also includes the Firm Style Guide inside the Skill, plus a bonus pack: Word templates for the disclosure report, chronology and parenting plan and sample outputs from every playbook. 12 months of fixes and adjustments to the included playbooks are included (new playbooks for future rule changes are not part of that).
Does it work on Claude’s Free plan?
Yes. The Skill runs on every Claude plan, including Free, as long as code execution is turned on. Free is fine for trying the kit with anonymized or fictional facts. For real client files, use a business plan that doesn’t train on your data.
I use ChatGPT. Will this work there?
No. The kit is built as a Claude Skill, and ChatGPT has no equivalent way to install it once and have it open the right playbook for each request. Claude’s free plan is enough to try it, an account takes a minute, and you can keep ChatGPT for everything else.
Which countries and forms does it cover?
The United States (state financial affidavits), England and Wales (Form E and financial remedies), Ontario (Form 13.1) and Australia (Federal Circuit and Family Court). Your Firm Profile sets the jurisdiction, and every playbook uses it.
Will it write my client’s affidavit or witness statement?
No, by design. Sworn evidence has to be your client’s own account. The playbooks organize the documents and the client’s answers into chronologies, summaries and drafts you control, and they never invent facts to fill a gap.
Does it connect to my case management system?
No connector needed. Export the affidavit, statements or notes as PDFs or documents from whatever system you use and upload them to Claude.
What if it isn’t right for my practice?
Email us within 30 days and we refund the full price. No conditions.
Is this legal advice?
No. The kit is for licensed lawyers and their staff. It drafts and organizes; you review, decide and sign. You remain responsible for every filing and every letter that leaves your office.
Your next disclosure, reconciled before the other side checks it.
Statements in; every mismatch flagged with its exhibit and page, totals recomputed with code, a sourced chronology and your sign-off last. About 6 hours a week back, by our estimate. $49 or $99, paid once. Use it on a real, anonymized file, and if it doesn’t earn its place within 30 days, we refund every cent. Not legal advice; for licensed lawyers.
